We’re halfway through September and everyone’s walking around with a pumpkin spice latte. Plot twist, not me. I actually don’t like coffee (unless it’s in tiramisu or other desserts) so I’m always looking for ways to spice up my tea beverages according to the season.
I recently tried Starbuck’ pumpkin chai latte and to be honest it was good but way too sweet for me. I’m not someone who will ever eliminate sugar from my lifestyle and I will never give up dessert (a world without chocolate would be depressing), but when it’s too sweet it’s too sweet. When it comes to sugar, I rather eat it than drink it. So I’d definitely choose to enjoy a chocolate soufflé or pumpkin bread as my sugar intake than downing a Starbucks latte. Hence, I decided to recreate the pumpkin chai latte at home.
Recreating drinks at home puts you in total control of what goes in them, so there won’t be anything artificial and no syrups that make your drink takes like a cup of chemicals. You can also decide upon your sweetener of choice. Maple syrup? Honey? Coconut sugar? It’s your call.
This pumpkin chai latte calls for only 5 ingredients!
You will need:
pumpkin pie spice
milk of choice
Pumpkin Chai Latte (serves 2)
- 2 cups brewed chai tea
- 1-3 tbsp sweetener (maple syrup or honey)
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 2 tbsp pumpkin purée
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- Brew two cups of chai tea by steeping two tea bags in 2 cups of boiling water.
- Pour hot chai tea in a blender and add sweetener of choice, milk, pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie spice. Blend until smooth. Enjoy as is or with whipped cream.
